Our Most Memorable Moments of 2022

Back to cruising in 2022, and we made the best of it! Here are all the most memorable moments we were able to pack into one fun year.
This was the first full year that we were able to cruise since the pandemic, and we made the most of it with seven cruises. We had lots of Future Cruise Credits from Norwegian to spend from all the canceled cruises during the pandemic, and we needed to spend every penny, plus we wanted to cruise on Celebrity again. It was definitely a whirlwind!
Bahamas and Mexico – February
We were happy to be back on Celebrity Edge for this seven-night cruise, which began and ended in Fort Lauderdale, and stopped in Nassau, Bahamas; Costa Maya, Mexico; Cozumel, Mexico; and George Town, Grand Cayman.
On this cruise, we didn’t get off the ship, but we had a good time onboard regardless. The ship is always fun.
On this cruise, we:
Had another Sky Suite, which was amazing, as always.
Relaxed in the solarium, a serene and adults-only space. A wonderful place to while away an afternoon.
Enjoyed the moonlight over the ocean.
Myron broke his record in Luminae one evening, ordering three entrees and two appetizers. And he ate it all!
Tried Baked Alaska, which was yummy.
Ate dinner at Eden, a premium restaurant that we’d been dying to try. Its cuisine is artisan, unique, and delicious.
Myron won his first ever trophy in the slots tournament.
This was our longest cruise yet at ten nights, which feels like a nice sweet spot. Seven nights is too short, because you’re just starting to really settle in around day five or so, and any longer might be too long. We’ll find out in January 2023 when we go for our Panama Canal cruise, which is fifteen nights.
Eastern Caribbean – April
This time we sailed on Celebrity Millennium.
The ten-night cruise began and ended in Fort Lauderdale, and stopped in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic; San Juan, Puerto Rico; St. Croix, US Virgin Islands; St. Johns, Antigua; Basseterre, St. Kitts and Nevis; and Philipsburg, St. Maarten.
On this cruise, we:
Were upgraded to a Royal Suite, which was absolutely fabulous. It was huge and had a stocked bar.
Celebrated both my sixtieth birthday and our twenty-second anniversary. We were spoiled rotten by the crew.
Made lots of new friends.
Played with monkeys in Puerto Plata.
Swam with stingrays in St. Johns, where Myron got a horrible sunburn.
Myron won the archery tournament onboard. He was so excited!
It was another great cruise, full of fabulous memories.
Alaska Northbound – May
Back on the Celebrity Millennium, it was like homecoming week for us with the crew. We love those guys! This seven-night cruise began in Vancouver and ended in Seward, Alaska. It stopped in Ketchikan, Icy Strait Point, Juneau, and Skagway.
On this trip, we:
Explored Vancouver, a first for me.
Did a duck boat tour in Ketchikan.
Went on an evening whale-watching cruise and dinner in Juneau.
Rode on the famous White Pass Railroad in Skagway. The best part of the trip was our hilarious guide, Nugget.
Panned for gold at an old mine.
Loved on the sled dog puppies…so cute!
Got matching pedicures. What a hoot!
Sailed past a glacier in the early morning in our bathrobes.
Won a slots tournament. Note the Alaska T-shirt. Thought it was going to be cool, but the weather was so hot in Alaska that I ran out of the few short-sleeved shirts that I’d brought. Had to scramble. LOL
What a great cruise that was. We had a ball!
Greek Isles and Italy – August
Back on Norwegian for this ten-night cruise on another new ship for us, Norwegian Escape.
The cruise began and ended in Rome, and stopped in Santorini, Greece; Athens, Greece; Valletta, Malta; Messina, Italy; Naples, Italy; and Florence, Italy.
On this trip, we:
Flew in business class, a first for me.
Spent a day in Rome before the cruise, exploring on our own.
Wandered through Santorini, a bucket-list item for me. What a gorgeous island!
Saw the Parthenon in Athens.
Took a tour of Valletta in Malta.
Wandered on our own in Messina.
Explored Pompeii, another bucket-list item for me.
Took a tour of Florence and enjoyed some wonderful Italian pizza…and beer. Boy, was it hot there!
If you ever get the chance to cruise the Greek Isles, take it. You’ll make memories that will last a lifetime.
French Riviera and Italy – September
On the new Celebrity Beyond for a nine-night cruise, which started in Barcelona and ended in Rome. The cruise stopped in Marseille, France; Nice, France; Santa Margherita, Italy; Rome, Italy Messina, Italy; and Naples, Italy. Due to weather, Florence was canceled and Rome was substituted.
On this trip, we:
Explored Barcelona a little, since it was the first time in Spain for both of us.
Toured Aix-en-Provence and people-watched. It was Myron’s first time in France.
Had very little time in Marseille, so stopped for a quick lunch. Pizza!
Myron gambled in Monte Carlo (and sneaked a photo of the ceiling). He also got to see some of the Formula 1 course in Monaco. Bucket list!
Learned to make pesto in Rapallo.
In Naples, we were bussed to Sorrento for a vineyard tour and wine tasting.
What a great trip of firsts and bucket list items!

Mexican Riviera – October
On the Norwegian Bliss, a new ship for us, for a seven-night cruise. This ship stopped in Cabo San Lucas, Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, and Ensenada.
On this cruise, we:
Stayed in a club balcony cabin for the first time. It was nice, especially the large spa shower.
Took some great photos of El Arco in Cabo San Lucas, even without leaving the ship.
Viewed the Day of the Dead displays and altars in Puerto Vallarta.
Enjoyed a fiesta that included traditional Mexican folk dancing.
Saw the amazing cliff divers in Mazatlan.
Myron won the coverall at bingo, and I won my biggest jackpot yet in the casino. What fun!
We also saw a marriage proposal at the table next to us at dinner. It was so sweet.
It was a fun cruise!
Western Caribbean – December
We cruised with siblings for the first time on a seven-night cruise to the Caribbean on Norwegian Breakaway. Myron’s sisters Virginia and Sonia joined us, and we had a ball.
Starting and ending in New Orleans, the cruise stopped in Costa Maya, Mexico; Harvest Caye, Belize; Roatan, Honduras; and Cozumel, Mexico.
On this trip, we:
Stayed in our first Spa Balcony Cabin, which was a bit of a letdown, to be honest. I expected a slightly larger cabin and a spa shower, like what we had on our last cruise with the Club Balcony Suite, but it was merely a balcony cabin with thermal suite privileges.
Saw our first parade in New Orleans and caught beads flung off the floats.
Experienced a Mayan cleansing ritual.
Went snorkeling on a catamaran.
Found our first cruise duck!
Went bowling together for the first time.
Had a wonderful beach day in Cozumel.
It was a wonderful trip with many firsts, and a great way to finish out the year.

As for next year, 2023 promises to be exciting with a Panama Canal cruise, back to the Caribbean, our first Scandinavian cruise, and our first ocean crossing…to Japan!
