Cruising on Celebrity soon in The Retreat and curious about what dining at Luminae is like? Over the last few years, we’ve eaten many meals at Celebrity’s Luminae and have taken pictures of nearly every dish.

In our opinion, the best amenity of cruising in The Retreat on Celebrity is the opportunity to eat at Luminae. Dining there is an immersive experience that tantalizes your taste buds and surrounds you with delectable aromas and incredible ocean views.

When you dine at Luminae for the first time, prepare yourself for a culinary adventure that combines contemporary flavors with classic favorites. Luminae’s menu showcases a variety of expertly prepared dishes using high-quality and fresh ingredients sourced from around the world. From perfectly cooked steaks and mouthwatering seafood to flavorful vegetarian options, Luminae caters to a wide range of preferences and dietary needs.

If you have special needs, inform your waiter and the chef will take extra care to ensure your meal is delicious and safe for you to consume.

The Details

Breakfast hours: 8:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. (will vary by port)
Lunch hours: 11:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. (closed on port days)
Dinner hours: 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Luminae Restaurant

When you enter Luminae, a hostess greets you at the door to take your room number and assign you to a table. Don’t be shy about asking for your table preference; she’ll do her best to accommodate you. Within a day or two, she’ll probably know you on sight and won’t need to ask that you’d like a table for four near the window. A waiter or the maître d’ will escort you into the restaurant, an elegant, intimate setting with sleek decor, softly lit ambiance, and panoramic ocean views.

The restaurant is large and spacious. Tables for two, four, and more are available, some with banquette seating. The decor is contemporary and luxurious.

The tables are beautifully set with white dinnerware and lavender glassware, woven mats instead of tablecloths. Fresh white orchids adorn each table every day.

Once you’re seated, your waiter will quickly approach and make introductions, ascertaining your water preferences and if you have any food allergies while providing you with menus. As you peruse the menu, your water will be poured, either flat or sparkling, and an assistant waiter will approach to offer you baked goods, either pastries at breakfast or an assortment of breads at lunch and dinner.

Your sommelier will stop by to ascertain if you need cocktails from the bar or wine, and will remove your wine glasses if wine isn’t wanted.

Once you’re ready, your waiter will return to take your order, answering any of your questions about the menu and making suggestions if needed.

Luminae Menus

Sample breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus are shown below. The menus are on a fourteen-day cycle, so you won’t see the same menu unless you are on a fifteen-day cruise or longer.

One thing that’s consistent for dinner is the Classic Menu, which isn’t listed on Luminae’s dinner menu but oddly enough is listed on the main dining room menus. Ask your waiter to fill you in.

The Classic Menu includes:

Appetizers: Shrimp cocktail, French onion soup, Caesar salad, escargot.
Entrées: NY strip steak, grilled chicken breast, salmon.
Desserts: Chocolate cake, NY cheesecake, ice cream, creme brûlée.

If none of the starter or entrée items on the dinner menu tempt you, any of these classic items are available for you to select each evening.

Pro Tip: If you don’t care for the menu at Luminae that night, ask for a main dining room menu. On some ships, the galleys for Luminae and the main dining rooms are close together, so you can pick and choose between their menus to create your meal (e.g. appetizer from Luminae, entree from Cosmopolitan, and dessert from Luminae).

The menu for breakfast remains the same each day, but the lunch and dinner menus change daily.

The lunch menu does contain their burger and Cobb salad each day, but the other items are new.

The dinner menu changes each night, rotating on a fourteen-day schedule.

Breakfast

The breakfast menu includes everything from traditional egg breakfasts to French toast. Sides of bacon, sausage, potatoes, biscuits, oatmeal, corn beef hash, baked beans, grilled tomato, sauteed mushrooms, and grits are available.

As always with The Retreat, if there’s something you want that isn’t listed, be sure to ask. Off-menu item requests are accommodated when possible.

Lunch

For lunch, you can select from sandwiches, soups, salads, or entrées. If you are like me and want something different one day, simply ask what else they can offer. I love how they serve your salad dressing in a gravy boat, allowing you to choose how much you’d like.

Dinner

Dinner at Luminae is always wonderful. If you don’t care for the selections on the regular menu, you can order from the classic menu. Just ask.

Appetizers and entrées change each night, but the Daniel Boulud dinner items are always available, as are the items from the classic menu (which aren’t actually on the menu as mentioned above).

Also unadvertised are menu items for children. Ask your waiter what might be available.

Final Thoughts about Celebrity’s Luminae Restaurant

After so many meals at Luminae, we practically know the menus by heart. Still, the chefs often surprise us at dinner with something new. Regardless of your choice, you are guaranteed to have a delicious meal that you will remember long after your cruise is over.
