6 Helpful Must Have Cruise Travel Accessories

Cruising brings a whole new list of travel accessory needs, and many cruise travel accessories are recommended. Here are my top six must have cruise travel accessories that I won’t cruise without.
Once you have a few cruises under your belt, you get a pretty good idea of the things that you really need versus the things people tell you to buy and you never use.
So, rather than give you a list of a million and one things you should run out and buy right now for your first cruise, I’d rather give you a short list of six items that we take and use on every single cruise…and wouldn’t want to cruise without. Whether in our carry-on bag or our checked luggage, these must-have cruise accessories come with us.

1 | Luggage Scale
First, you need to be sure your luggage isn’t overweight—both going to your cruise and coming home from it. A small luggage scale is the perfect thing. This is the one that we’ve been using for the past few years, and it’s saved us overage fees many times—especially when we’ve used it to check our luggage weights going home after shopping during a cruise, or bringing home a bottle or two of wine or liquor. Liquids add a lot of weight, and it’s a good idea to weigh those suitcases before you head to the airport.

2 | Luggage Tags
These days, cruise lines aren’t mailing you luggage tags much anymore, so you’re expected to print out your tag, fold it, and staple it around your suitcase handle.
What if the tag tears off? What if it’s raining on embarkation day?
Rather than worry about those things, we purchased inexpensive luggage tag holders like these and have used them for every cruise we’ve gone on. They’re strong and durable and still doing the job. We haven’t had trouble with leakage from rain, and none have come off our luggage. To us, they’re the ultimate cruise accessories.

3 | Magnet Hooks
What do I need magnets for, you ask?
In a small cabin, storage space is at a premium, and the metal walls and door give you the perfect opportunity to hang things. Whether you want to keep something out of the way or keep it where you can see it, magnet hooks will do the job.
Some people use the magnets to hang their hat or lightweight jacket on the wall, or a hanger with a wet item from the bathroom ceiling, but we use ours to attach our cruise schedule to the back of the cabin door.
These are the ones that we use, and they come with us on every cruise. They’re a little heavy as cruise accessories go, but they’re well worth it. Check out our post for how we use them.

4 | Password Book
Keep your passwords with you in this little book when you travel. There is nothing worse than needing to access one of your online accounts when you’re traveling and you can’t remember your password. This password book is small enough to carry in your purse. Once you arrive at your ship cabin, tuck it in your safe.
I carry my password book on every trip, which gives me peace of mind.

5 | Pill Organizer
If you’re of a “certain age” like me, you probably take several pills a day, both prescriptions and supplements. Rather than bring a bag full of pill bottles on your cruise, why not take a pill organizer instead?
This is the one I use. I like it because it has three sections for each day. Plus, each day’s section has its own container that you can remove and pop in your purse or pocket and take with you.
If I’m on a trip longer than a week, I use each section for an entire day’s pills, which will give me storage capacity for three weeks. It’s great!

6 | Travel-Size Toiletry Bottles
I have a set of similar travel-size silicone bottles that I use when I travel, one each for shampoo, lotion, hair gel, aloe gel, etc. The silicone material gives, so when you’re running low, the bottle shrinks a bit, signaling that you need to refill it before your next trip.
The bottles are different colors and hold three ounces each, which makes them TSA-approved, so they can go in your carry-on. Plus, a nice case to carry them in is included. Bonus!
Toiletry Travel Bottles
