The Accessible Sky Suite On Celebrity: What to Expect

On one of our cruises on Celebrity Millennium, we had an accessible Sky Suite for one night, long enough to get a feel for what you can expect. For comparison, check out our review of the traditional Sky Suite on Celebrity.

When we originally booked, the only Sky Suite available was an accessible cabin, so we took it with the hope of switching cabins once we were onboard. That is what ended up happening, but it took a day for the change to take place, so we spent one night in this cabin.

Celebrity’s Sky Suite is like a studio apartment, a combination living and sleeping area with a separate bathroom. At 362 square feet, the accessible cabin is larger than a regular Sky Suite, which allows easy movement of a wheelchair or scooter. The color scheme for the cabins on the Millennium is gray and white with gold for a pop of color.

We stayed in the accessible Sky Suite 9123 on Deck Nine, on the port side of the center of the ship. Our cabin was close to the central elevator bank and stairs, which made it easy to go anywhere on the ship.

The Sleeping Area

As in most larger cruise ship cabins, two twin beds that can be pushed together to make a king or queen, or separated as twins. On the Millennium, the beds convert to a queen. In the Retreat, a mattress topper makes the bed seamless. The mattress is cashmere, which delivered a good night’s sleep for us both.

The bed is made with luxurious sheets, a comforter, and two pillows per person, one firm and one soft. A bed runner completes the look.

On either side of the bed is a small bedside table with a small tabletop lamp and a single drawer for you to store smaller items. A phone is on the left side of the bed, and an emergency pull cord is above the bed.

Two small seats at the foot of the bed help make dressing easier.

Pro Tip: The bed is high enough off the floor to store your suitcases beneath it while closed, even large ones. For beds that aren’t quite that high, open your suitcase like a book and slide it under. This is a great place to store your clothes after wearing.

Furnishings

A couch provides seating, although I don’t believe it converts into a bed, so the cabin is limited to two occupants. Rather than a coffee table, two nesting tables are set to the side of the couch to minimize obstructions.

On one wall is a dresser with several drawers, plus a small cabinet that holds the mini-fridge. The desk area at the end has a chair, and a lighted mirror for makeup application or checking yourself before you leave the cabin.

Refreshments

A tea and coffee station is provided with a tea kettle for heating water, two cups, saucers, and demitasse spoons, instant coffee, tea bags, and assorted sugars and sweeteners.

Next to the tea and coffee station is a tray with three large Evian bottled waters, two cans of water, an ice bucket with tongs, and two stemless glasses. Also provided are two champagne flutes, plus a welcome bottle of bubbly.

Your mini fridge is hidden in the cabinet. Here you see it stocked with complimentary Cokes, Fanta, Diet Coke, and canned water as we’d requested, plus several beers.

Pro Tip: Ask your butler to stock your fridge to your liking. They’ll be happy to provide you with what you want.

On the desk is a leather portfolio that contains a welcome letter, and business cards from your butler, cabin steward, and concierge team. Here is also where you’ll find menus for room service, and your excursion tickets.

Technology

At the desk are two US electrical outlets, one European outlet, and two USB ports.

The flat-screen TV is a little small for such a large room. Because of the configuration of the room, it’s not visible from the couch. A remote is provided.

Closets and Storage

There is a closet unit with two compartments, one with one rod and plenty of wooden hangers. This is where you’ll find your plush robes and slippers, plus a large umbrella.

In the other side of the closet is shelving space and drawers. Here is where your safe is located, your hair dryer, and binoculars for your use.

The Bathroom

The bathroom is extra roomy with a wide door to accommodate a wheelchair. The sink is lower than usual for the same reason. The shower is also accessible and has a seat and a detachable shower wand. It has a shower curtain and grab bars.

Storage is very lacking in the bathroom, with only a small space beneath the sink. One hook is provided on the back of the door.

Bigelow shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and lotion are provided in large bottles, as well as bar soap and shower caps.

A phone is mounted on the wall near the toilet, and an emergency pull cord is located between the shower and the toilet.

Two downsides we noticed were that the entire floor of the bathroom became very wet during showers, and the towel bars were far from the shower.

The Balcony

The balcony is large and is furnished with a small table and two chairs, as well as two armchairs. The glass panels in the railing allow for an unobstructed view. The entry to the balcony has been modified to accommodate a wheelchair.

Pro Tip: Fill out your room service menu for a light breakfast and coffee the night before and hang it on your doorknob. Your butler will deliver your breakfast the next morning, and you can enjoy it on your balcony, enjoying the ocean view.

Bonuses

Plush robes and slippers will be awaiting you in the large closet. We don’t use the slippers, but the robes always get a lot of mileage.

As mentioned before, you also have the use of binoculars, a large umbrella, and a small umbrella during your stay. You’ll probably also be provided with a complimentary beach bag, which comes in handy for excursions or for relaxing by the pool.

Complimentary sparkling wine on arrival is also a nice touch.

Pro Tip: Ask your butler for orange juice to mix with your sparkling wine for mimosas. The complimentary sparkling wine isn’t top-shelf, but with orange juice is perfect.
