Are you thinking of booking a Sunset Sky Suite on Celebrity Apex? It’s slightly different from a regular Sky Suite, so let’s discuss those differences.

The Cabin

We recently took a Baltic cruise on Celebrity Apex and stayed in a Sunset Sky Suite. Overall, it’s very similar to a regular Sky Suite, but there are differences. Either way, it’s a studio-style cabin with a sleeping/living room, a large well-appointed bathroom, and an extra-large balcony with sweeping views. The Celebrity Apex Sunset Sky Suite is 462 square feet, including the balcony.

Our cabin was 12259 on Deck Twelve, on the port aft corner at the very rear of the ship. When you have a Sunset cabin on Celebrity, whether it’s a Sky Suite or not, you will have to do a lot of walking, especially to reach the Retreat amenities that are always in the bow or front of the ship. But with the fabulous large balcony you’re getting in return, it’s worth it. Plus, you burn off extra calories you’re consuming.

Suite Difference: In most other Sky Suites, your cabin will be close to the Retreat amenities in the bow of the ship. With the Sunset Sky Suite in the aft of the ship, however, you’ll need to do more walking.

In this post, I’ll discuss just the Sunset Sky Suite and not the Retreat amenities.

The Sleeping Area

The king-size bed is luxurious and comfortable, with its cashmere mattress and a plush mattress topper. Crisp white sheets and a lightweight duvet are quite nice, as well as the two down pillows on each side. If you don’t care for the pillows provided, ask your cabin attendant for others.

Suite Difference: In a Sky Suite, the bed faces the balcony. In a Sunset Sky Suite, however, the bed is placed on a side wall, perpendicular to the balcony.

During the day, your bed will be made with extra decorative pillows and a bed runner at the foot, which your cabin attendant will remove during the evening turndown service. A wrapped chocolate will be left on each of your top pillows.

The left-hand night table is very narrow with three small cubbies. A lamp is on top, and you have a single 110V outlet and two USB outlets. Although this is the smaller of the two bedside tables, this one is where you’ll need to set up your CPAP, if you use one. Mine worked fine here, although the tabletop was a bit crowded.

Pro Tip: Use one of your magnet hooks on the wall high above this table to loop your CPAP tubing over during the day to keep it out of the way.

The right-hand bedside table is wider with three larger cubbies. On top is a lamp, a room phone, and a notepad with a pen. This side of the bed has no electrical outlets.

Pro Tip: The bed is high enough off the floor to accommodate sliding your suitcases beneath it for storage.

Other Furnishings

A sofa is between the bed and the balcony. This sofa does not convert to a bed for extra guests, so the Sunset Sky Suite’s max passenger capacity is two. A small stool is next to it, and a nice-sized coffee table is in front of it, large enough to enjoy breakfast.

On the opposite wall from the bed is a dresser and your minifridge, which is in the white cabinet.

The dresser drawers are roomy, each separated with a divider to help organize two people’s clothing.

To the left of the minifridge is a slide-out desk with a chair. A leather portfolio on the desk contains a welcome letter, as well as business cards from your butler, cabin steward, and concierge team. Menus for room service are here, plus tickets for excursions and invitations to any special events.

Refreshments

On the desk is a small tray that holds your ice bucket, tongs, two complimentary bottled waters, and glasses. Don’t be shy—ask your butler to stock your minifridge with soft drinks, water, and beer.

Technology

A small white box on the dresser is your charging station. It offers one 220V plug, two 110V plugs, and two USB ports. Tuck your cords inside and close the lid to hide them.

Above the counter is a large flat-screen TV that swivels toward the bed. A remote control is provided.

In the entryway is a control panel for the room that allows you to control the temperature, adjust the lighting, or open and close the drapes. At the bottom, you’ll see helpful lighting/drape combinations for morning, movie, evening, and sleep.

Closets and Storage

Two closets are provided—a larger one for hanging clothing and a smaller one with shelves and drawers. To the left of the bathroom door is a closet for hanging clothes with two rods, one full-length at the top and a half rod at the bottom. Wooden hangers are provided; if you need more, simply ask your cabin attendant.

The smaller closet to the right of the bathroom door has four shelves and three small drawers. A safe for your valuables is on the bottom shelf, as well as a laundry bag and laundry form.

The Bathroom

The bathroom is large and has a double sink, bathtub/shower combo, water closet, and a makeup station.

Plenty of storage is available in the bathroom for your toiletries, with three shelves on either side of the sink, plus three drawers beneath the sink.

Pro Tip: Ask your butler early on the first day how to operate the shower. It’s not obvious, and you don’t want to figure it out when you’re groggy in the morning. Trust me, it’s not intuitive.

Bigelow products such as shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hand soap, and lotion are provided in large bottles, as well as bar soap, shower caps, and lip balm.

Suite Difference: In a Sky Suite, the mirror has two panels that slide apart so you can see into the room. The Sunset Sky Suite does not have this option.

The makeup station is one of my favorite things about all the Sky Suites. It provides a nice seating area where you can apply your makeup or dry your hair, with a cushioned hassock slid beneath the counter. A lighted magnifying makes applying makeup a breeze. Plus, you have extra shelves for even more storage.

The Balcony

The balcony is large, at least double the size of a balcony in a regular Sky Suite, and has two loungers, a small table, and two chairs. The table is large enough for eating snacks or having coffee or cocktails, but not large enough to hold a meal. Being on the aft corner, the views are much wider than those from a regular Sky Suite’s balcony.

Suite Difference: In a Sky Suite, the balcony is small with only a tiny table and two chairs. In a Sunset Sky Suite, the balcony is large enough to add two loungers, giving you a private oasis to stretch out and relax while watching the sea.

Bonuses

Suites in the Retreat offer bonus items for your use during your stay, items you thankfully won’t need to pack. Plush robes and slippers for your cruise can be found in the large closet, as well as a large golf umbrella and a compact umbrella. In the small closet, you’ll find a pair of compact binoculars for your use.

You will probably also be provided with a complimentary beach bag a day or two into your cruise, which comes in handy for excursions, or for relaxing by the pool or in the solarium.

Complimentary sparkling wine on arrival always makes me smile. We always ask our butler for orange juice so we can make mimosas. If you finish your bottle, your butler may even bring you a new one.

Final Thoughts on the Celebrity Apex Sunset Sky Suite

To us, the larger balcony of a Sunset Sky Suite outweighs the few negatives that come with it. Overall, it is a nice upgrade from a regular Sky Suite, especially for itineraries with sweeping views like those in Alaska or the Norwegian fjords. If you plan to spend a lot of time on your balcony, you might want to consider the upgrade.

Happy cruising!
