For years, I’ve been buying shoes that look like Allbirds but weren’t. That’s because they weren’t invented yet! Now I’m a huge fan because I’ve found that they’re the best travel shoe.
Why, you ask? Because they’re cute, comfortable, available in tons of fun colors, and amazingly enough…washable! How could they not be the best travel shoe?

A couple of years ago, I bought my first pair of Allbirds, intrigued because of their sustainability practices and the fact that their shoes are washable. I was skeptical, but they were telling the truth. The shoes are fine going through the washing machine and come out looking great (but don’t throw them in the dryer). The insoles are removable and hand-washable. Those can also go through the washer, but they’ll wear out faster that way.
Since then, I’ve worn Allbirds on every cruise we’ve taken. They’re lightweight, comfortable, and versatile.
The Best Allbirds for Air Travel
Allbirds has several styles of shoes, but the one I love best for wearing while flying to my cruise port is the Tree Lounger. With an upper made of breathable eucalyptus fiber, they’re perfect for warm weather (think Caribbean cruise), and being a slip-on, they make it easy to go through airport security. Plus, you can walk for miles in them from Concourse A to Concourse F in comfort. I also wear my Tree Loungers on the ship and on excursions if I don’t need a sure-grip lace-up shoe.

The Best Allbirds for Wearing Onboard Ship
You know what I’m going to say, right? A boat shoe! Of course, Allbirds has one, the Tree Skipper, and it’s oh-so adorable.
If your cabin is in the stern and you’re eating three meals a day in the buffet in the bow, no worries. Your feet will be comfy no matter how many miles you log onboard. And if you have an excursion on a sailboat, well, you have the shoe for it.

The Best Allbirds for Dressing Up
Now that I’m past sixty, I can no longer wear high heels comfortably, so I need to wear flats. Allbirds has me covered with the perfect slipper, the Tree Breezer. They come in an array of fun colors, plus the neutrals you’d expect.
I pair my Breezers with dresses and capri pants, loving that I can wear them all evening and not have sore feet at the end of the night. Feel free to dance the night away!

The Best Allbirds for Excursions
If you want a shoe for lots of walking, the Trail Runner is the shoe for you. It will keep your feet protected and comfortable, plus give you good traction, whether you’re hiking through a tropical rainforest or navigating the cobblestone streets of Europe.

The Best All-Around Travel Shoe
If you want a pair of Allbirds that will be a good everyday sneaker, try the Tree Runner. It gives you the security of a lace-up shoe and the comfort and style that Allbirds is famous for.

Final Thoughts On Allbirds: The Best Travel Shoe
Allbirds also offers these shoes in sustainable wool, perfect for cold weather. So if you’re heading to Alaska, you can still wear your Allbirds.
I own a dozen pairs of Allbirds in various colors—including the Tree Lounger, Tree Skipper, Tree Breezer, Tree Piper, and Tree Runner (all paid for by me, to my husband’s dismay). But these shoes are addictive. They’re so comfortable, you’ll want to wear them all the time, and I do. I’m wearing my original gray Tree Loungers now as I write this post.
But if you buy a pair and don’t like them, Allbirds has you covered with a 30-day guarantee. Return the shoes—even if you’ve worn them—and they’ll either refund your money or send you another pair of shoes to try. They’re that awesome.
Ready to give them a whirl? Go to their website and see if any look like your style. Your feet will be glad you did. Soon, you’ll be telling your friends that Allbirds is the best travel shoe too.
Happy cruising!
