About The Millennium
The Millennium is a midsize cruise ship in the Celebrity Cruises fleet that offers an exceptional experience for those seeking luxury and comfort at sea. From its elegant design to its world-class amenities, the Millennium promises an unforgettable journey for its guests. Whether you’re looking to relax in a spacious sky suite, take a dip in a sparkling pool or hot tub, see a Broadway-style show, try your luck in the casino, or indulge in the finest dining options, this ship has it all.
Built in 2000, the Millennium is a premium cruise ship, the first in Celebrity’s Millennium class. Its eleven decks house 1,069 staterooms with a capacity for 2,218 passengers at double occupancy. The ship weighs 90,940 tons, is 965 feet long with a 105-foot beam, and has an average cruising speed of 24 knots. There are approximately 1,000 crew members aboard, with an average of 1:2.2 crew-to-passenger ratio.
Our Sky Suite
Our recent cruise to Japan on the Millennium was made all the more memorable thanks to our stay in a luxurious sky suite. It was a truly unforgettable experience, complete with stunning views, top-notch amenities, and exceptional service.
Located on the port (left) side of the ship, our revolutionized stateroom (6121) was upgraded to Edge-class standards during the ship’s renovation in 2019. It was the first older ship in the fleet to receive these enhancements, including upgrades to the casino, shopping, restaurants, staterooms, and more.
This 251-square-foot stateroom is on the port side, conveniently located between the central and aft (rear) elevators. Below us was the restaurant Sushi on Five, and above us were balcony cabins. We noticed no noise from above or below us during our cruise.
Although a bit smaller than a sky suite on a Celebrity Edge-class ship, sky suites on Millennium-class ships are still spacious and elegant at 251 square feet. Studio-style, sky suites have a combination living/sleeping area, a separate bathroom, and a balcony.
The amenities in the sky suite were superb. The bathroom was updated and featured a shower/tub combination and a sink with a granite countertop. The queen-size bed was incredibly comfortable, and there was a full-size sofa for seating in the living area. We also had a large flat-screen TV with on-demand movies, and a minibar we could fill with our favorite drinks obtained from the Retreat Lounge.
With all that said, let’s go into a little more detail.
The Bed
The bed is queen-sized and can be separated into twin beds. Made up with crisp white sheets and a duvet, the bed has four pillows and a runner stretched along the foot. The color scheme of the suites on the Millennium is gray, gold, and white.
Other Furnishings
Furnishings in the suite include a simple one-drawer nightstand on either side of the bed with a lamp, a full-length sofa with a throw pillow, a desk area with a lighted mirror and sleek chair, and a long counter space with storage space below. A mini-fridge is hidden inside one of the cabinets under the counter. Two stools are situated at the foot of the bed, perfect for sitting on while slipping off your shoes to relax.
The Bathroom
Compared to the bathrooms in sky suites on other ships, the bathroom in Millennium-class sky suites is a bit small. There is not enough room for two people to utilize the bathroom at the same time unless one person is in the shower. However, it is much larger and nicer than a bathroom in non-suite cabins.
There is a tub with a shower that you have to step up into, which might be difficult for shorter people or those with disabilities. Once you’re in the tub, the ceiling is quite low at about 6 feet. The rainfall shower head is on a wand, which attaches to an adjustable bar.
The bathroom is stocked with C.O. Bigelow toiletries in large bottles: shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and lotion. Ear swabs and cotton balls are also available, as well as individually wrapped face wipes.
Be careful going into the bathroom as there is a step up of about 5 inches. It is clearly marked, but you’ll probably stub your toe at least once on it in the middle of the night as I did.
There is no nightlight in the bathroom, so you may want to bring a battery-powered motion-sensor one like this.
Refreshments
On your counter, you will find two complimentary bottles of water, an ice bucket with tongs, and glassware. The mini fridge below the counter will be stocked with water, sodas, beer, and mini bottles of spirits, but those are for sale. We simply moved the sale items into the adjacent cabinet space to give us more room in our fridge.
Technology
A flat-screen TV with a remote control is on the wall above the chest of drawers, which situates it for good viewing from the bed but not from the sofa. Heating and air conditioning is adjusted by a simple dial control to the right of the bed.
Electrical outlets include one 110-volt US plug behind the nightstand on both sides of the bed. At the desk are two USB ports, two 110-volt US outlets, and one 220-volt European outlet.
A phone is on one of the nightstands. Be sure to check the indicator light for messages each day from the activities director or Retreat concierge.
High-tech controls for lighting and drapes like you will find on Edge-class ships are not available on Millennium-class ships.
Closets and Storage
Storage includes a double-wide closet with a single bar, a single-wide closet with shelving and two drawers, shelving beneath the long counter, and two cubbies next to the closets.
The Balcony
The balcony is a nice size at 57 square feet, large enough for a small table and two chairs, plus a cushioned loveseat. Unfortunately, we were directly above equipment a deck below, which although it didn’t exactly obstruct the view, the equipment still detracted from it. Still, there’s nothing quite like watching the sun rise over the ocean from the comfort of your own suite.
Bonuses
Available for your use during your cruise are a set of binoculars (the ones in our suite this time were full-size rather than compact), two plush Frette bathrobes in a size large or so, two sets of Frette terry slippers, and an umbrella. A canvas cruise-line branded tote bag that you can take home is also left in your suite for you.
The Butler
Although sky suites have historically had a butler, they no longer do as of September 2023. The head butler is available to you, however, on request, and your cabin attendant will perform duties as your butler would have.
Luminae – The Retreat Restaurant
One of the perks of staying in a Sky Suite is access to the exclusive Luminae restaurant, which is a world-class dining experience that is reserved for suite guests. The menu features gourmet cuisine that isn’t available in the ship’s other restaurants, and the atmosphere is elegant and refined. We loved being able to enjoy a delicious meal without the hustle and bustle of the main dining areas and having to wait in a long line.
Other Amenities
Sky Suite guests have exclusive access to a private lounge, restaurant, pool, and spa. The lounge served as a peaceful retreat where we could enjoy a drink or snack in a quiet atmosphere away from the crowds. The private hot tub and sun deck were the ultimate relaxation spots, offering a more intimate hot tub experience and luxurious chaise lounges, plus tables for al fresco dining.
