We recently cruised for the first time in a Sky Suite on Celebrity Solstice and were pleasantly surprised. Read on to find out why.
Ah, the joy of cruising! Picture yourself on a magnificent ship, gliding over deep blue water with nothing but endless blue skies above you. Now, imagine taking that experience up a notch by indulging in the luxury of a Sky Suite on the remarkable Celebrity Solstice. Get ready to be pampered, because booking a Sky Suite on Celebrity is your ticket to the wonders of The Retreat.
We’ve sailed in many Sky Suites on Celebrity before this cruise, all of them on the newer Edge-class ships. So, we were a little apprehensive about whether we would be happy with the suite on a fifteen-year-old ship. But we didn’t have to worry.

The Suite
Our Sky Suite on Celebrity Solstice was on Deck Twelve, cabin 2127.
As you step into the Sky Suite, you’ll find yourself immersed in a world of elegance and sophistication. These spacious and beautifully designed suites offer a private sanctuary where you can unwind and revel in the stunning ocean views from your private veranda. The contemporary decor and plush furnishings create an ambiance that exudes comfort and style, making you feel like royalty.
Although some of the decor is slightly dated, the furniture is in good condition, and amenities like the bed, the TV, and the veranda furniture have been updated.
Each Sky Suite on the Solstice is equipped with a luxurious bed with a cashmere mattress and luxurious linens, perfect for a wonderful night’s sleep. Other furnishings include a desk and chair with a lighted makeup mirror, a chest of drawers that also houses a mini fridge, and a wall-mounted flat-screen TV. All suites have a sofa, but many hide a bed that will allow a third and sometimes fourth passenger to enjoy the cabin with you, perfect for families. Our suite did have a sofabed.
The bed is a queen size that can be divided into two smaller beds. A nightstand is on each side of the bed, and a night light is on the wall above it. As this is an older ship, there are no electrical outlets next to the bed, a throwback to a simpler time when electronics weren’t a huge part of our lives. A phone is next to the bed, along with a notepad and pen, and room service menus.
The mini fridge is stocked with free sodas, bottled water, and beer, plus for-purchase wine and mini bottles of liquor. Be careful; the items in the door of the fridge are for purchase, and a price list is included inside the fridge. Ask your butler to move the for-purchase items out of your fridge, which will give you more room for the free items that you can enjoy.
And yes, even though you have a beverage package, the wine and liquor in the fridge are not free. But despite what the private bar menu says, the water, sodas, and beer are covered under your beverage package.
The desk has four deep drawers and a pencil drawer, where I keep our cruise notebook and all the receipts we accumulated during the cruise. A Celebrity tote bag was left for us there, one of the several things we didn’t have to pack since we were in The Retreat, along with more bottled water, an ice bucket, a wine bottle opener, and glasses.
Note: For safety reasons, your hair dryer will only work at the electrical outlets here at the desk. I went with wet hair for the first morning because I tried to use the dryer in the bathroom and it wouldn’t work there. Silly me thought it was broken.
The Bathroom
The bathroom is medium-sized, not too small but not huge. It has a single bowl sink, a toilet, and a tub/shower combination.
The sink has drawers on each side, plus storage behind the two side mirrors. We found the bathroom storage to be perfect, although our drawers slid out on their own while we were at sea. Two hooks are on the inside of the bathroom door, which work well for holding your bathrobes.
Bigelow bath products are provided in large bottles: shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and lotion. Other Bigelow products provided are bar soap, shower caps, and lip balm.
The bathtub is raised slightly and requires an awkward step to climb into, which might be difficult for those with mobility issues. Between the shower curtain and a partial glass partition, no water accumulates on the floor. The shower has a waterfall head as well as a shower wand.
Storage
Storage is abundant in this Sky Suite, so much so that there were drawers and cubbies that we didn’t use. Between the drawers in the chest and the desk, there was plenty of space. Two closets rounded out the storage.
The closet to the left is divided into two compartments, one that has shelves and holds your room safe, and the other that has a bar for hanging clothes. Here is where you’ll find your umbrellas, one compact and one larger, and a pair of compact binoculars are here for your use during the cruise.
The closet to the right is a full-size closet. A shelf above holds your life jackets, and a rod below has plenty of room for hanging clothes. Here is where you’ll find your robes and slippers, as well as a laundry bag you can use to send out clothing to be washed, dry-cleaned, or pressed.
Your chest beneath the TV has four large drawers. In the center, the section on the left contains shelves, and the section on the right hides your mini fridge. Above the TV is a shelf and two cubbies.
The Balcony
The balcony is a nice size, large enough for a chair with an ottoman for relaxing, and a full-size table and two chairs for dining. Perfect! The only complaint we had about the balcony was the overhang, which made taking unobstructed photos from the balcony difficult, even when standing at the railing.
Your Butler
Among the highlights of the Sky Suite experience are the indulgent amenities and personalized service. From the moment you step onboard, a butler will be at your service, catering to your every need. Imagine having your favorite hors d’oeuvres waiting for you when you return from an excursion, or enjoying a leisurely breakfast on your veranda as the sun rises over the horizon. These small touches make a big difference and elevate your cruise experience to new heights.
You’ll receive a bottle of sparkling wine in your suite on embarkation day. We always ask our butler to stock our fridge with orange juice so we can make mimosas. Once you empty your bottle, you can ask your butler for another, if you want, or maybe ask for a bottle of wine instead. It’s no problem.
We sailed to Alaska on our cruise, so on the day we were scheduled to sail past Dawes Glacier early in the morning, we arranged for our butler to bring breakfast to our cabin and serve it on our balcony. It was perfect!
Luminae Restaurant
But the luxury doesn’t stop at the cabin. The Sky Suite grants you exclusive access to a private restaurant called Luminae. Here, you can savor delectable cuisine crafted by talented chefs using the finest ingredients. The intimate setting and personalized service ensure that every meal becomes a memorable culinary adventure.
Although the decor of Luminae on Solstice-class ships is different from that on Edge-class ships, the menus are the same, as is the food, and both are wonderful. And the views from the floor-to-ceiling windows are fabulous.
Suite Amenities
In addition to the extraordinary accommodations and dining, Sky Suite guests also enjoy a range of exclusive privileges. You’ll have access to Michael’s Club, an exclusive lounge area where you can unwind, have a cocktail, and mingle with other Retreat passengers. Complimentary beverages, priority embarkation and disembarkation, and reserved theater seating are just a few of the additional perks that come with this extraordinary suite.
On the newer Edge-class ships, you also have access to a Retreat sundeck and outside bar, which we thought we would miss but didn’t.
